An 80 AFUE furnace converts roughly 80 percent of fuel energy to usable heat across a season, with the balance leaving through the vent. A 95 AFUE condensing furnace recovers more of that heat, which is why it produces condensate.

The savings you actually see depend on how many hours the furnace runs, local fuel rates, the home's envelope and duct performance.
